Snake River is the largest tributary of the Columbia River at 1,078 miles long, and is the largest North American river that empties into the Pacific Ocean. Rising in western Wyoming, the river flows through southern Idaho, northeastern Oregon into Washington state where it enters into the Columbia. The Snake River Plain was created by a volcanic hotspot which now lies underneath Yellowstone National Park where the Snake River arises. In Wyoming the river flows south from Yellowstone through Jackson Lake, Grand Tetons, all along US-191 and US-89 to Hoback, down through Alpine.
