Canyonlands National Park

Aztec Butte
Drive 6.5 miles south to the Island in the Sky Visitor Center and turn right at Upheaval Dome Road. Go another .8 mile, and turn right into the parking area.

Big Spring Canyon

10.4 Miles RT
From the Visitor Center drive 6.5 miles to a parking lot where the trailhead is ocated. The trail heads west 3.4 miles and meets with a jeep road .7 mile to another jeep road that you will walk along to its end and onto Overlook Point in 1.1 miles. That offers views of where the Colorado River and the Green River meet.

Cave Spring

.6 Mile Loop
Drive .9 mile west from the Needles Entrance and turn left, then .5 mile and turn left again to the end of the road in 1.2 miles to the trailhead. This loop walks by ruins, Cave Spring, and rock art.

Chesler Park Loop/Elephant Hill Trail/Joint Trail

17 Mile Loop
Call (435)259-4351 Two weeks in advance for a $15 backcountry camping permit. From the Visitor Center follow the signs to Elephant Hill to the parking lot and trailhead. From the trailhead you hike south 1.3 miles and turn right at the fork, then left in .6 mile at this fork. Follow this trail south passing the next 2 forks 3.2 miles down Elephant Canyon to Druid Arch. Back at the fork 1.8 miles north turn left along some ruins to make the loop of Chesler Park. The trail takes you through huge caverns and narrow crevasses of sandstone to a viewpoint overlooking Chesler Park.

The Chocolate Drops

8.8 Miles RT
Drive south from Hanksville on HWY 95 for 45 miles to the Dirty Devil River. After crossing the ridge drive 1.2 miles southturn left onto the dirt road. The first 34 miles isn’t too bad, but the last 14 miles will require 4WD. 30 miles from the HWY turn right at the 4-way, and follow the signs to Doll House and Standing Rocks. 3.5 miles before reaching the Doll House there will be a sign marking the Chimney Rock trailhead and parking area. From Chimney Rock Trailhead, drive back towards the highway for 3 miles, past Lizard Rock and the Wall. There will be a parking lot on the north side of the road just past the Wall. There are 4 towers that sit about 200 feet high. The trail heads north 4.4 miles before reaching the Chocolate Drops.

Fisher Towers

4.2 Miles RT
From Moab drive north 2 miles on HWY 191, and turn east onto HWY 128 and drive 21 miles to a gravel road on the right side that goes 2.1 miles to the trailhead at the picnic area. The trail takes you along gigantic red-rock formations and has views of Colorado River George near the end. All along the trail you will encounter various locations of rock art.

Funnel Arch

.5 Mile RT
From Moab drive downriver on Cane Creek Road into lower Cane Creek Canyon. Drive 2 miles past pavement road and park in the pull-out. This hike takes you to Funnel Arch and through Behind-the-Rocks slick rock country.

Granary

2 Mile Loop
You will need 4WD. From Hans Flat Ranger Station, drive 2.5 miles to the Panoramic Point junction, and turn right onto Gordon Flats. Drive 12.1 miles and turn left down Flint Trail 2.8 miles to Big Water Canyon Road, and turn right. Follow this road for 3.5 miles to a 4-way and turn left. Stay on Dollhouse Road for 20.8 miles until you reach the campground. Turn left at the fork to the trailhead 50 feet after the Confluence Overlook. You will follow the Spanish Bottom Trail .4 mile to a junction turning right to another junction in .25 mile turn left to Surprise Valley Overlook, and the Granary.

Grand View

2 Miles RT
Drive south from the Island in the Sky Visitor Center for 12 miles all the way to the end of the road to the trailhead.

Green and Colorado River Overlook

8.9 Miles RT
Drive south from Hanksville on HWY 95 for 45 miles to the Dirty Devil River. After crossing the ridge drive 1.2 miles southturn left onto the dirt road. The first 34 miles isn’t too bad, but the last 14 miles will require 4WD. 30 miles from the HWY turn right at the 4-way, and follow the signs to Doll House and Standing Rocks. 3.5 miles before reaching the Doll House there will be a sign marking the Chimney Rock trailhead and parking area. From here drive east for 3.8 miles where the road crosses a small wash to the trailhead. After hiking northward .8 mile you will see the Beehive Arch on your left. The trail will lead you right down to the arch. After 3.5 miles stay to the right at the junction. In .9 mile you’ll reach the junctions that will loop around.

Halls Bridge

1 Mile RT
4WD up Pritchett Canyon to about 1/8 a mile beyond the southern side of Window Arch. Halls Bridge is in the upper part of this drainage.

Horseshoe Canyon Trail/Great Gallery

7.4 Miles RT
5 miles north of the junction between the Hanksville and Green River roads to the Maze to a road on the east side to Horseshoe Canyon 2 miles to the trailhead. The trail heads south 3.7 miles to the Great Gallery, which is a major rock-art site. There are several other rock-art locations along the way.

Little Wild Horse Canyon Trail

9.4 Mile Loop
Drive south of I-70 on HWY 24, 24 miles to Hanksville, and go to Goblin Valley State Park. 2 miles before the entrance turn right onto Wild Horse Mesa and drive another 5.3 miles to the trailhead. The trail heads north .6 mile and turns left at the junction into Bell Canyon. After 1.9 miles you will reach a jeep road with Cistern Mine just west of you. Continue on the road northeast to find the trail that loops around back to the trailhead.

The Maze/Chimney Rock Trail

12.9 Mile Loop
Call the Hans Flat Ranger Station (435) 259-2652, 2 weeks in advance for a $15 backcountry camping permit. Drive south from Hanksville on HWY 95 for 45 miles to the Dirty Devil River. After crossing the ridge drive 1.2 miles southturn left onto the dirt road. The first 34 miles isn’t too bad, but the last 14 miles will require 4WD. 30 miles from the HWY turn right at the 4-way, and follow the signs to Doll House and Standing Rocks. 3.5 miles before reaching the Doll House there will be a sign marking the Chimney Rock trailhead and parking area. The trail heads north 6.6 miles to the Maze Overlook, and returns back to the trailhead 6.3 miles via Pictograph Fork, which forks right 1.8 miles from the overlook. The trail will fork again in 2.3 miles where you will turn left back to the trailhead.

Mesa Arch

.5 Mile Loop
Drive 6.3 miles south to the Island in the Sky Visitor Center and turn east into the Mesa Arch Parking Area. The arch is on the edge of a 500 foot cliff. You can also see Washer Woman Arch off to the left of the Mesa Arch Overlook.

Murphy Trail

9 Mile Loop
Drive 6.4 miles south from the Island in the Sky Center and turn left at the junction towards Grand View Point. Drive 2.5 miles and turn right to Murphy Point, park at the trailhead .5 mile from the paved road. Hike south 1.1 miles and turn left at the junction. Hike another 2.6 miles and you will meet a jeep road where you need to head west 1.4 miles to Murphy Camp and back on the trail just north from here. The trail continues 2.8 miles north to meet back with the previous trail.

Neck Spring Loop

5 Miles RT
Drive .8 mile south of the Island in the Sky Visitor Center and turn left into the Shafer Canyon Overlook Parking Area. The Island in the Sky plateau narrows to 40 feet with cliffs dropping off n both sides. After leaving the trailhead you’ll have to cross the road and continue on the other side. Then the trail drops down to Neck Springs. Then the trail will climb up to Cabin Springs.

Negro Bill Canyon

4.5 Miles RT
From Moab drive north 2 miles on HWY 191, and turn east onto HWY 128, 3.1 miles to the parking lot and trailhead. This trail follows a stream through Navajo Sandstone 2.3 miles to Morning Glory Natural Bridge.

Pothole Point

From the Needles Entrance drive 5.1 miles the Pothole Point Parking Area.

Slickrock Foot Trail

2.4 Mile Loop
From the Needles Entrance drive 6.4 miles and park on the south side of the road at Slickrock Parking Area. There are 4 viewpoints along this trail.

Squaw Canyon

7.5 Mile Loop
From the Needles Entrance drive west for 2.7 miles and turn left into the campground. The left for takes you to the trailhead with the shortest access to the backcountry. Stay to the right at the junction to the Peekaboo Trail, and 2.8 miles in at the Lost Canyon Trail. Then the trail will climb slickrock all the way to Big Spring Canyon junction; just keep to your right back to the trailhead past the Chesler Park Trail junction.

Upheaval Dome Overlook/Syncline Loop Trail

8 Mile Loop
Drive 6.5 miles south to Island in the Sky Visitor Center and turn right onto Upheaval Dome Road. Go another 4.8 miles to the picnic area at the end of the road. The Crater View trailhead is near the west side of the picnic area. After 100 yards the trail will fork to the left and right continue straight climbing .5 mile to reach the first overlook. The second overlook is just another .75 mile. Back at the main path head west 3.2 miles to a junction and turn right at both junctions heading east 1.5 miles to the center of the crater. Back at the main path continue northeast 4.6 miles to return back to the trailhead.

Whale Rock

1 Mile RT
Drive 6.5 miles south to Island in the Sky Visitor Center and turn right onto Upheaval Dome Road. Go another 3.9 miles to the parking lot. The trailhead is on the north side of the road. From the trailhead to the overlook is .5 mile.

White Rim Overlook

1.5 Miles RT
Drive 11.2 miles south form the Island in the Sky Center and turn left into the picnic area. The trail begins near the south side of the parking lot.

Windows Trail

1 Mile Loop
Stay on the main park road to the Windows Section turnoff near the Balanced-Rock pull-off, and park at the end of the road loop. There are 2 trails here. The 1st one will take you to Double Arch, and the other to Turret Arch, and North and South Windows.
